About the role

As a Senior Storage Engineer, you’ll be the go-to expert for Ceph within DataCrunch. You’ll play a key role in expanding, tuning, and scaling our storage systems to support a rapidly growing AI cloud. Your work will directly impact the performance and reliability of our services, from high-performance compute clusters to customer-facing workloads.

You’ll collaborate closely with the Cloud and Backend teams to ensure seamless integrations, while also driving automation and troubleshooting complex issues. Beyond engineering, you’ll contribute to shaping the long-term direction of our storage strategy - moving towards OpenStack, scaling services across clouds, and ensuring our infrastructure is both resilient and future-proof.

This is a hands-on role where your expertise in Linux, automation, and large-scale Ceph deployments will help define the backbone of DataCrunch’s AI cloud.

Practicalities
  • Remote role, based anywhere in the EU

  • (For Helsinki-based candidates) Presence in our Kamppi office at least 3 days per week

  • Full-time, permanent contract

Your responsibilities
  • Expand and set up new storage systems to meet scaling demands

  • Performance tuning of Ceph clusters (object, block, shared storage)

  • Automate deployment, monitoring, and operational workflows

  • Troubleshoot complex system-level issues in production

  • Provide customer assistance and ensure reliability and performance standards are met

  • Collaborate with the Cloud and Backend teams on storage presentation and integrations

  • Drive adoption of OpenStack storage across the organisation

Your key competencies
  • Deep experience with Linux systems

  • Proven expertise with large Ceph installations, including CEPHFS and MDS tuning

  • Hands-on knowledge of multi-site S3/RGW deployments

  • Skilled in system tuning and optimisation for performance and reliability

  • Strong automation background (Ansible, Bash, Python)

  • Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform

  • Experience with Git and version control workflows

  • Exposure to Kubernetes (bare metal and cloud deployments)

  • Familiarity with OpenStack environments

  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work in customer-facing situations

  • Broader storage technology experience beyond Ceph

  • Performance tuning across diverse storage stacks

  • Experience with backup systems and disaster recovery

  • Strong networking skills and understanding of load balancing
