About the role
As a Senior OpenStack Engineer, you will play a leading role in designing, deploying, operating, and scaling our OpenStack-based cloud. You will work on greenfield initiatives to enhance our IaaS layer, build reliable and sustainable cloud foundations, and ensure our infrastructure meets the performance demands of modern AI workloads. This role is hands-on, strategic, and highly collaborative - ideal for someone who wants ownership, autonomy, and the chance to influence major architectural decisions.

Practicalities

Your responsibilities
  • Lead the design and architecture of OpenStack environments across our cloud platform.
  • Develop scalable, resilient, and automated deployment pipelines using tools such as Ansible.
  • Ensure high availability, disaster recovery readiness, and operational excellence across our OpenStack services.
  • Own monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance optimisation of OpenStack infrastructure.
  • Partner closely with DevOps, Storage, and Operations teams to enhance CI/CD integration and reliability.
  •  Respond to infrastructure incidents, drive root-cause analysis, and elevate internal best practices for IaaS.
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to internal documentation and architectural standards.
  • Contribute to greenfield projects enabling large-scale GPU deployments for AI customers.
  • Take ownership of improvement initiatives that support our mission and long-term cloud roadmap. 
Your key competencies
  • Demonstrated experience architecting, deploying, and maintaining OpenStack environments in production.
  • Deep Linux systems knowledge, with strong networking fundamentals.
  • Strong proficiency with Ansible or similar automation/orchestration tools.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex infrastructure issues end-to-end.
  • Clear communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and translate technical concepts.
  • Comfort working in an agile environment and managing multiple priorities.
  • Strategic mindset — able to use data and insights to drive infrastructure decisions. 
Success criteria for this role in the next 6-12 months
By month 6, you will have:
  • Fully owned parts of our OpenStack deployment and automated key workflows.Improved reliability and performance across core OpenStack services.
  • Contributed to a major greenfield project (networking, scaling, or automation). 
By month 12, you will have:
  • Led a significant architectural improvement across our IaaS platform.
  • Meaningfully reduced operational load through automation and tooling. 
  • Established yourself as a go-to technical expert within the cloud engineering organisation.
