Senior Linux Network Engineer

Permanent employee, Full-time · Maria01 (Helsinki), Remote (EU)

Imagine a future where everyone has instant, low-cost access to intelligence.

At Verda, we’re building a fully featured European AI cloud - a platform for builders, researchers, and enterprises to train, experiment with, and deploy AI models at scale. Our GPUs run on 100% renewable energy, powering a more sustainable AI ecosystem.

We’re ambitious, curious, and gutsy doers. We operate with low hierarchy, high ownership, and a big vision. We’ve grown fast, and after raising $64M in Series A funding, we’re only getting started. This is an opportunity to join early and help shape how developers engage with the next generation of AI infrastructure.

About the role
We’re looking for a Senior Linux Network Engineer to act as a deep technical expert on host networking. This role sits at the intersection of software and networking, supporting our provisioning, infrastructure, and platform teams to build a high-performance, scalable, tenant-isolated networking stack across bare metal, virtual machines, and containers.

You’ll work hands-on with our existing networking stack while helping define what it should become as we scale 10–100x from our current usage. This is a critical role for Verda’s cloud platform as we continue to expand our OpenStack and container-based environments.

  • Support and evolve OVN / OVS-based networking architectures to deliver high-performance, tenant-isolated connectivity
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve performance bottlenecks across the host networking stack
  • Help software teams understand networking limitations, trade-offs, and best practices
  • Lead proof-of-concept work, configuration, and rollout of new networking components
  • Contribute to defining a unified hardware and software networking stack for servers, containers, and bare-metal nodes

  • 7+ years of experience in Linux systems administration with a strong focus on networkin
  • Deep expertise in the Linux networking stack (iptables / nftables, routing, network namespaces, overlay networks)
  • Solid working knowledge of FRR and EVPN
  • Strong understanding of software-defined networking (SDN) principles
  • Hands-on experience with virtualisation technologies such as KVM, containers, and Kubernetes networking

  • Knowledge of container networking and CNI ecosystems (Calico, Cilium, Flannel, OVN-Kubernetes, etc.)
Success criteria for this role in the next 6-12 months
  • You’ve taken ownership of Verda’s software-defined networking stack
  • You’re delivering continuous improvements into production
  • You’ve made measurable performance improvements to customer VXLAN provisioning
